Obama and Molech

Abortion is boring.

Being the suave, trendy, sophisticated society that we are, we prefer to consider more fashionable political issues such as, did James Dobson really call Sponge Bob gay, or is Sarah Palin's church extreme? (After all, someone did speak in tongues there once) Those who choose to ignore the cumbersome abortion issue, often make statements like, "You know, abortion is not the only moral issue in America." Duh! Really? Or, "Well, we're never gonna get rid of abortion, anyway." Which is like, "We're always gonna have crime, so why fight it?"

The prophet Micah (a minor prophet because he was only 5 ft. 2…...OK, I just made that up) records God's condemnatory declaration toward individuals who would kill their "precious baby to cancel [their] sin." Or as the NIV quotes it, offering the "fruit of their body, for the sin of their soul." Ouch! Actually, the text is making reference to the detestable sin of people offering their children as human sacrifices. (After all, being their own children, they should have the right to choose whether to terminate them—shouldn't they?) Micah exposes their motives (blows their spot, as da’ boyz would say). This is not very different from those in our modern society who choose to live and have sex with no regard to Godly boundaries and then choose to extinguish their "precious baby to cancel their sin."

Because of the extreme nature of this sin, the Ammonite deity on whose altars these children were sacrificed was called Molech, [cf. Molech the Detestable or, the Abominable Molech]. That word, detestable, in the Hebrew is "meriting intense dislike," and is used for something that is very odious (really, really stinks). Thus, the offering which was representatively supposed to offer a sweet aroma to God (or the gods), was actually a repulsive stench. It grossed out the one true wise God because it was so vile. This is reminiscent of when the angel of the Lord witnessed the abomination of Sodom and Gomorrah first hand, they rushed lot out "for we are about to destroy this place." (I think the original Hebrew reads, “Get yo' butt outta here I’m gonna blow this place up, NOW!) No more negotiating with Abraham ["How about if we find ten righteous…?]. No more intellectual debates. Sodom and Gomorrah's sin was detestable, as was the sin of killing innocent children. In this we see illustrated quite a despicable way of thinking. I call it the Detestable Worldview, and it is exemplified in Proverbs 17:15, “Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent—the Lord detests them both.”

This abhorrent worldview seems to be a paradigm generally adhered to by Mr. Obama. The Senator is “flatly opposed to capital punishment…against any restrictions on abortion, and in support of state laws to ban the manufacture, sale and even possession of handguns.” (USA Today 12/11/07) So, who is condemned and who is acquitted by this mindset? The epitome of innocence—babies—die. Serial rapists and murderers—guilty—should be allowed to live and not get the death penalty. Hunters need permits, special permission, and must give up their first born, to purchase a gun, while murderers on NYC streets could basically walk into a bodega and say, “I’d like a pound of cheese, a loaf of bread, and a .38 Special Please.” Again, the innocent are under condemnation and scrutiny (and left unprotected) while the guilty mock liberal gun laws. I’ve never heard of a thug saying, “Aw Jeez! Now we have to wait a week for a background check before we purchase this gun.” All this is not Obama’s fault or doing, but this is indeed the fruit of his worldview. According to a biblical worldview, such as presented in Proverbs 17:15, these issues are more serious in God’s eyes (and nostrils) than mere political matters.

Obama voted against the Induced Infant Liability Act, which would have protected babies that survived late-term abortions. That same year a similar federal law, the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, which would require doctors to try to save babies who survived “botched” abortion attempts. You could get more info at http://www.citizenlink.org/content/A000007034.cfm. He was the only Senator who voted against this bill.

There is something detestable about condoning 1.3 million innocent children to be killed annually, yet resisting capital punishment for heinous criminals. Indeed, the abortion lobby in the United States has reached the extreme of apparently defending any abortion, no matter how advanced the pregnancy and no matter how developed the child. It is completely lawful to deliver a late term infant feet first, stab the baby in the base of the skull, insert a suction tube and suck out the baby’s brain, and then remove what’s left of the infant’s dead body piece by piece.

God pronounced severe judgment on those would “give their seed to Molech.” “Any[body] who gives any of his children to Molech must be put to death." What makes us think that God changed his position, and would prosper a nation—or President—who would facilitate the destruction of a human in (or while exiting) the womb?

What murky waters we tread...

Knowing what I know, and believing what I believe makes it difficult for me look at more angles than those that are comfortable for me, but I HAVE to. My lessons learned "out" of the so-called fold have galvanized my compulsion to reach for objectivity. Total objectivity is daunting, and some say, even impossible to attain, but I fear being a sheep to a human shepherd more than I fear going against the "proverbial" grain, no pun intended.

Your blog deftly makes us look HARD at Obama and his policies, and to scrutinize them when they don't add up. It forces us to reassess the "dog and pony" effect of BOTH parties which validates your initial intentions of "close examination".

However, it seems to me that you're promoting a view more than you're examining the individual. It appears that you are positioning Obama as more of a defendant than as the subject of an ongoing examination. Judging from your perspective, he seems to already be guilty as charged, and If so, then why the forum?

Now, I'm not attacking you for your stance on abortion, but I'm not altogether certain that your facts are lining up either. It is my understanding, that Christians don't rely simply on raw data when dealing with deep issues. A presidential candidate's political and personal resume are public record, and you correctly examined that he HAD voted on several abortion related fronts, but did he vote in the ways that you charge? Take a look at his own words regarding these issues and what he actually voted in these instances:
http://www.ontheissues.org/Social/Barack_Obama_Abortion.htm

The easy thing for a Pro Life supporter to do is to call Obama's abortion policy "detestable" and "murderous", but if you look up the actual public records, will you discover something different than what you propose?

The records themselves don't completely absolve Obama. That much is true. His stance doesn't seem to be very strong for the traditional Pro Choice view, but in fairness, it doesn't promote the murder of innocent babies either. Not at all, from my vantage point. As a matter of fact, the "NO" votes that he made in many cases were made because the woman's health wasn't being taken into consideration under these policy proposals. The link that you provide is from "Focus on the Family", and while I appreciate the resource, it may not be the most objective place to get an unbiased breakdown of this, or any election process for that matter.

Despite my position, I think it's important to note that I have NOT reached a decision with regard to where I will cast my vote. I'm simply trying my best, against all odds, to make the right choice overall. There are gaping holes in both campaigns. There are issues on both sides that I'm not sold on, but I'm not going to paint somebody a "CUCO" unless I'm sure that he is one. Pardon my Puerto Ricanisms.

Must we ask ourselves EVERY single election season if the democratic nominee is "The Antichrist"? I think that's pretty silly. If what I have been taught is true, even in the most basic sense, then my spirit will be notified as to something reeking of a certain "stench", won't it? Or will that only happen if my spiritual badge of honor is at level 25 with 5 stars?

"Brigadeer General Christians are the only ones privy to that level of classified information, private! Now SCRAM!!!". lol

To be honest, as much as it interests me to weigh in on discussions that matter, I almost hate talking about politics with Christians. I had George W. Bush literally shoved down my throat during his first campaign, and I even remember feeling bad for him when he first started drawing the hard criticisms, but are the people of God, such as the Focus on the Family people, who openly endorsed G.W. as a man of God, and SOLID president, supposed to be a source of enlightenment for me?

In May of 2007 Bush invited Dobson to the Whitehouse for a private meeting which centered around plans for rallying more support for the Iraq war from Christians. It's been widely reported that James Dobson had a HUGE hand in getting Bush reelected. Our country is hurting badly right now and the exiting administration has a whole lot to do with that, so please excuse me for not relying on the Focus on the Family perspective when it comes to matters of the current Election Season. I much prefer reading some of his older books to aligning myself with the rise of his "unwilling" influence in politics, thank you very much.

All that I say here, I say respectfully, nevertheless I say it because although I understand the purpose that you've outlined for this blog, I don't necessarily feel like this particular post upholds that idea.

I find it refreshing to read posts that, like the author said, are not afraid to call these issues what they are. Abortion, no matter how you sugarcoat it or no matter what the reason, is taking a life. Now we take into consideration the safety of the woman's life, but really, who are we to get in the way of God? We are really 'playing God' when we make a decision to end a life in order to "save" another. Now, I noticed that, in the comment that "chink" left he stated that "are the people of God, such as the Focus on the Family people, who openly endorsed G.W. as a man of God, and SOLID president, supposed to be a source of enlightenment for me?" I believe the answer to this question is no. The true source of "enlightenment" should be the infallible Word of God, the bible. If we read this and rely on this alone, we will not go wrong. The bible clearly states that homosexuality is "an abomination to God", and what the author states about the connection between abortion and the god Molech is very true. Even our own law here in America speaks against abortion, and contradicts itself. Why is it that abortion is legal, and often promoted, but if a person murders a woman who is pregnant, he will be charged with double-homicide? This is such an absurd thought that it shocks me that our government can let this go on.

The fact remains: the further we push God out of this country, the more depraved and chaotic the country becomes. Note-we pushed God out of schools and removed the ten commandments, including "thou shall not kill" and what happens? We have students carrying guns into school and murdering innocent people. Do we think there is a connection here? Apparently America is blind to the fact that our sins are bringing judgment upon us. How many disasters do we have to endure before we will "humble ourselves and pray, turn from our wicked ways". God is waiting for us to return to Him. This is the first time in history that people have tried to declare that it is not a sin to practice homosexuality. At least the people of Sodom and Gomorrah knew they were sinning. We have churches ordaining openly homosexual leaders! Unless something changes, we will bring disaster upon ourselves, and our country will continue to move further and further into chaos and depravity.

My prayer is simple. God, soften the peoples hearts to be open to true repentance. Open the eyes of the people to see the truth, and to turn their hearts back to you...

This is great blog tons of truth in it I tend to lean towards McCain.
but I have hard time trusting any politician they will say anything to get elected...ultimately God has the last say on this issue.

What's up Joel,
I knew that feathers would ruffle when I decided to look at things from the perspective that I chose. I hope, however, that my belief system isn't going to be put on trial here. That would make the prospect of contributing to this blog less interesting to me indeed. One of the saddest things about we Christians is that some of us just can't help coming across with that obligatory "Christian snarl", which not only hurts our overall cause, which is to win people to Christ, but it also makes us look like dumb cowboys, who spend their leisure days learning how to ride a bull, if only for a few seconds. With that said....

YEE HAW!!!

Look, I am part of the fraternity of believers. However, I liken myself to the unpopular geek in high school, with pimples, versus the popular jock who gets all the girls and gets voted home coming King. This is not my overall outlook, mind you. Its just the way that I tend to feel about my place among the "brethren". No disrespect, but none of these observations that you make, "Ozzy", are new. They are the same things that have been repeated by Christian "authorities" over and over again. Yes, we live in an evil, immoral world, and yes, every day that passes hastens God's judgement upon this country and planet. If this were not the case "Ozzy", then would there even be a need to preach the Gospel at all? Would we need to be concerned with abortion policy and gay marriage? Exactly what would we be saved from if the world were in great moral shape and free from sin? The word of God, indeed, is infallible, but too often, the interpretation of it by man leaves much to be desired.

I was really hoping that I wasn't going to have to state my position on the abortion issue in a place like this; in the company of highly intelligent people, some of whom I have had the privilege to go to war alongside, against the forces of hell; People capable of reading between the lines, especially when convenient, lol. However, after reading some of the responses to my post, my conclusion is that it's best for me to state what should be obvious to the discerning.

No, I am NOT for abortion, at all, EVER, but I'm also not for lying, which I have been guilty of. No worries though, I'm sure I'm the only one in here guilty of that "detestable" sin; and I'm CERTAINLY not for using God's principles to make me popular to a particular crowd or sect. In addition to that, I'm not for using a seat of power to fatten, my already deep pockets, or to strategically "liberate" millions of people in a region that just might, I don't know, maybe, feed my insatiable hunger for oil and its profits. While we're at it, I'm not for a family tax "stimulus" of a couple hundred bucks when the REAL truth is that our current tax plan NOTORIOUSLY ignores the struggles of the middle class and the poor. Look at what the trickle down theory has trickled down ladies and gentlemen! Are you ready? Drum roll please...annnd POOF!!!

Nothing except benefit the top 1% percent of the earners in this country. Hooray!!!

If you want to talk about researchable stats, go take a look at who our current tax plan is REALLY benefitting. Oh, yeah, and I'm also not for sacrificing the lives of our young and underprivileged men and women for a "freedom fight" that is based on the Loch Ness Monster legend. Oops, I'm sorry. What I meant to say there was "weapons of mass destruction". I guess I made that syntax error because of the similarities present in both of those "true" stories, but before you try to convince me that enlistment is a choice, consider that the armed forces advertisement honchos specifically target young, underprivileged minorities, even going so far as to trick them into enlistment. The truth, as you say, is out there. See for yourself.

Joel, you're right. You didn't bring up Bush. I did, because to be fair, you can't just call ANYBODY else out without looking at your own folly first. My friend who I love dearly, If you truly believe the stuff that you say in support of George W. Bush, even after being subjected to quite possibly, the worst administration in the history of American government, than I am utterly speechless and can only hope that you will take the time to at least reexamine your position with more research. To simply look closely at the Bush family history was disturbing enough for me.

You want some facts? Here are some facts regarding George, and no Joel, I don't hate him, and I am not easily brainwashed by stupid actors, or fat directors who shoot themselves in the foot with personal vendettas and self indulgence. I am someone who JUST LIKE YOU, seeks truth. By the way, "Ozzy", at my age, and given what I've gone through, I know just about enough to know that "Focus on the Family" can't save me, and that I need to use the Word as my measuring stick, but thanks for bringing me back to the basics. lol

Okay, Georgie Bush FACT TIME!

1. Gay Rights: He opposes gay marriage, but he does not enforce this opposition on a national level and he allows States to vote as they please on the issue AND doesn't oppose civic "partnerships" between gays, which in essence is a sort of marriage.

2. Abortion: Bush is the first president to fund embryonic stem cell research. "Embryonic stem cell research requires the destruction of life" - GW Bush He also supports abortion in the case of rape, and incest and life of mother. Hmmmn. Sounds like Obama here.

3. Economics: Bush inherited a federal surplus which is now oddly enough is a deficit of over 1.4 trillion dollars. I guess he had nothing to do with that either. Overall spending has increased over 42% during his administration and his parting gift leaves us in recession.

That's enough stats for now.

This is what I was alluding to when I said that these discussions are dodgy at best among people of faith. Jesus wasn't concerned with the politics of the day when he was on this earth, In fact, he seemed to take great pleasure in publicly making fools of the religious "leaders" of the day who much like now, are more concerned with the exact level of ugliness of a particular sin, than with the bigger picture...

MY PRAYER, is to thank God sooooo much for seeing a bigger picture with regard to my choices, misgivings, inadequacies, and morality. How dare I judge another man's potential based on my perspective of the yuckiness of his sin.

King David!!! Are you hearing this, O man after God's own heart???

Maybe we should forcefully extract David's history from the Bible. After all, he did some ugly stuff man! lol

For our sake He made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. - 2 Corinthians 5:21

Hey Joel, I guess you're not a fat piece of dirt after all, homie! You're more like a chubby, slightly judgmental, piece of His righteousness, and that is perfectly cool with me man...

Love you and miss you brother,

Oh yea, and the Mets won't disappoint you man. They'll do exactly what you have always secretly expected them to do, and that is to L-O-S_E...

Dear Chinky:

It is good to hear from you again. Like I previously stated, I am glad that these issues could be discussed civilly and respectfully. In reply to your last comment, don't be concerned with your belief system being put on trial. That's what this is all about, indeed, that is life's road. Our systems must be challenged--sometimes harshly--so that they may be purged and tried. Don't take your marbles and run home if you get offended. After all, this is what Christians deal with every day. Jesus says, "Don’t be surprised if the world hates you...it hated me first." Being that you are not God, and not perfect, your belief systems have holes. Let others help fill those holes, and I will do the same.

I really do not want to go into all the "George Bush" you have presented. People will have to dig out the truth for themselves. Again, my blog is not about Bush. Perhaps you could start a BB (Bush Blog) and we'll all comment there. I will say the following, however, because I don't want people to think that what you wrote is complete, honest and correct. It is at least, disingenuous. (You see? You are making comment and distract myself. You know I just can't let this go!)

Gay Marriage: Unfortunately, President Bush cannot force his heterosexual marriage agenda as he pleases. You know that. He is not the Supreme Court or Congress. He has made clear, ""After more than two centuries of American jurisprudence and millennia of human experience, a few judges and local authorities are presuming to change the most fundamental institution of civilization.
Their actions have created confusion on an issue that requires clarity. On a matter of such importance, the voice of the people must be heard. Activist courts have left the people with one recourse.
If we're to prevent the meaning of marriage from being changed forever, our nation must enact a constitutional amendment to protect marriage in America." The point is not that he will, or has, singlehandedly righted the "Gay" issue. However, he has put in place two excellent, conservative judges, who may assist is maintaining a biblical worldview in our nation. (Oooh...liberals reading this are seething right now). That is one of President Bush's major, major accomplishments. Chinky, this is no small matter. You and I adhere to a biblical worldview -- and there IS a biblical worldview. It is not all open to interpretation like liberals believe the constitution to be. There are essentials, foundations to our faith, that if you don't adhere to, you are something else; not a Christian. And please don't assume I am talking about you. I am speaking in general terms. If someone says that they are a Christian, it means that they are followers of the Christ (duh!) of the Bible. There has to be a standard.

OK, that's it. I am not going to keep going on this. I do not believe President Bush is perfect. But I resent when Christians jump on the bash bush wagon and can find no right in him. The bottom-line is that he is hated because the devil (the prince of this world) despises the fact that he has stood up for the unborn and other godly standards. This is why if you listen to a majority -- not all -- of Christian leaders, they support and respect what he has done. Hollywood and liberals hate him. These Bush supporters are not all stupid people that are not as enlightened as you. And incidentally, Chinky, I am a thinker. I am not ignorant. I am not a cool-aid drinker or blind follower. I stand by my beliefs and could support them. I know the abortion and economic facts and President Bush has not hurt the middle class. That is an unsubstantiated liberal lie. Just so you know. It's ridiculous! Please don't state that as if it's a fact.

Alright, alright, I'm gonna shut up.

Love you.

JoelRaw you state: "The bottom-line is that he is hated because the devil (the prince of this world) despises the fact that he has stood up for the unborn and other godly standards."

That is a pretty hard stand to take, don't you think? An oversimplification perhaps? I certainly do not take your positions or reason behind them to be simple.

Whether or not I am a Christian has nothing to do with what I choose to think about how our country has handled various situations over the last 7 years. I do not subscribe to the "Bush is an idiot" doctrine. On the contrary I don't think he is stupid at all. I do, however, think he is followed a long legacy of the leaders of this country, including Clinton, and we are seeing things back-fire on us in ways no one could have predicted.

My concern here is that we (liberal and conservative) Americans are not focusing on the right things for this moment in history we find ourselves living in. I don't know of anyone who dislikes anyone else for a Pro-life or anti-gay marriage (as a moral issue). I can appreciate your position. I really do. HOWEVER, if you do not believe in abortion - as I have said before - don't have one. If you do not believe in Gay marriage then that is good, since apparently you are not gay, there is no risk of you entering into one and risking your salvation. But what does that have to do with every other person in this country?

Your belief system is absolute in your mind. There is no room for negotiation... in your lifestyle... not anyone else's. I do not think, for one minute, that my religious beliefs give me the right to say that because someone is gay, and my religion calls me to take the position that it is immoral, that legally they should not have the same rights as I do. How does a debate on legal rights of a couple benefit from my personal beliefs of that relationship. They don't. There is no room for this type of insistance, otherwise, your lifestyle is open to interpretation by other people of different spiritual beliefs... which I gather would not sit well with you at all.

It is not fair to impose your beliefs on someone else's legal rights as a citizen of a free country.

This is my main issue with the conservative mindset. Every major advancement this country has made has been due to the open-minded individual saying I have a right to live as I see fit. I can not take away your right to be anti-gay marriage. But the difference is I do not want to. If I had to vote on the ability for you to express your concerns about gay marriage or abortion. I would vote for you to keep that right - even though I do not agree with your position. I understand the bigger picture. This is not a society that is forced to follow Christian values, contrary to popular belief. There are some no-brainer rules that should be followed - but other than that.. fall back.
